About Beethoven Beethoven was a German composer and pianist. His best known compositions include 9 symphonies, 5 concertos for piano, 32 piano sonatas and 16 string quartets.

Beethoven was taught piano at a very young age, and continued to be taught by different teachers, one of them his father. As a young man, he devoted himself to study and performance, not to composing. Before becoming deaf, Beethoven composed many different pieces. A portrait of Beethoven as a young man

Loss of Hearing In roughly 1796, around the age of 26, Beethoven began to lose his hearing. He suffered from a “ringing” is his ears, making it hard for him to hear music. His hearing slowly deteriorated after this point, but he continued composing many different music pieces
