Presentation transcript:

In Order to develop confidence in students it easier to understand the reason why the student may lack confidence in the first place. Student are exposed to a big variety of stressors on any given day. These stressors may manifest themselves in school that result in a lack of confidence. All problems create tension! Tension must be relieved either verbally or behaviorally(Roger Pierangelo, George A. Giuliani).

 A student lacking in confidence is usually a student who has experienced emotional, social, environmental, or academic stress and /or failure.  As a result of internal turmoil, the student generates symptoms in a attempt to alleviate anxiety (Roger Pierangelo, George A. Giuliani).

 This true self –confidence, and it is based upon a realistic knowledge of how good you are and how you compare with others.  People with this false self-confidence act as though they know the answers, when as a matter of fact they don’t.  This “overconfidence” is sometimes a false front which very unconfident people put on a front from others how little assurance they really have about themselves ( C. Gilbert Wrenn).

These symptoms can show up in the form of may different behavior patterns. Consistent failure in at least two subjects in two or more quarter. Blaming others for poor academic or behavioral performance Recent stressful experiences (ex: family separation or divorce, death of a parent, parent’s loss of employment) Frequent visits to the school nurse(Roger Pierangelo, George A. Giuliani).

 Selective forgetting  If a Students knows the batting averages of a baseball players, the word from most song on the radio, and the times of most TV. shows but habitually “ forgets” to bring home his math book, the student may be exhibiting selective forgetting. The forgetfulness usually centers on areas of learning that the child finds frustrating.(Roger Pierangelo, George A. Giuliani).  Forgetting to write down assignments  All students forget to write down assignment from time to time. If this symptom continues even after repeated requests (or threats), the student is most likely trying to avoid a potential failure experience(Roger Pierangelo, George A. Giuliani).

 College students need to have sureness within themselves.  They must learn new skills  Few people, teen-age or older, are fully self- confident.  Most of us are too conscious of our faults and our limitations and not enough aware of our good points. All of us would find life happier and easier if we were just a little more sure of ourselves ( C. Gilbert Wrenn).

Why do you sometimes feel that you’re not worth much or that you’re bound to fail at any activity? Lack of self-confidence has a cause, too. The first step in making yourself feel better and more sure of yourself is to find out the reason you feel the way you do now ( C. Gilbert Wrenn).

first man say “ Ahem ! We haven't got all day! Second man says “ Well, ever since I was a child I’ve felt unloved, and inferior also…

You can handle it Helping your self  The usual garden variety lacks of self confidence causes of feeling of unsureness almost all of us have at some time and about some thing.  If your lack of confidence comes from such causes, you can apply to help yourself to greater self-assurance( C. Gilbert Wrenn).  Each of the needs we’ve been talking about must be at least partially satisfied if you are to be happy and self-confident. If they aren’t satisfied you cant be sure of yourself.  You always feel “ something’s missing”. You need to apply to the remedy that is not being satisfied in your life to make it better ( C. Gilbert Wrenn).
