Third Grade Vocabulary Words

Quiz 1

Declarative Sentence

Declarative sentences make a statement. They use a period.

Exclamatory Sentence

Exclamatory sentences show strong emotions. They use an exclamation point.

Interrogative Sentence

Interrogative sentences ask a question. They use a question mark.

Imperative Sentence

Imperative sentences make a command or request. They use a period.

Science

Science is a subject we study in school that helps explain how things work in the world. Magnets, habitats, rocks & minerals, soils, fossils, & ecology are the focus for 3 rd grade.

Social Studies

Social Studies is a subject in school we study in school that helps explain about the past. Government, Ancient Greece, map skills, economics, & 9 historical figures are the topics for 3 rd grade.

Sum

Sum is the answer to an addition problem in math.

Difference

Difference is the answer to a subtraction problem in math.

Main Idea

Main idea is the most important thought from a paragraph or larger section of text.

Characters

Characters are animals, people, or things represented in a text.

A habitat is the place where organisms live and find food.

A swamp is a habitat that has stagnant or still water.

The Piedmont is found in the middle part of our state between the mountains and the coastal plain.

Lines of Longitude run up and down on a map or globe.

Lines of Latitude

Lines of latitude are lines that run across maps or globes.

A compass rose is a diagram of directions that is located on every map or globe.
