5 Required courses, description Global Justice and Citizenship This course examines concepts central to political debate - particularly justice and rights - and investigates how political theorists use these in trying to justify basic principles governing the activities of the state. We consider how such principles might be justified and applied in contexts beyond the state. Approaches to Politics and IR: This course will familiarize you with key theoretical approaches to politics and international relations. Several different analytical perspectives - rational choice theory, institutionalism and social constructivism, critical theory, feminism, poststructuralism and postcolonialism - will be introduced and applied to contemporary, real world problems.

(IR) Theories of IR: The aim of this course is to introduce students to the key concepts of international relations theory, and to develop the skills necessary to engage with those concepts critically. Global Security: This course provides a broad conceptual framework for understanding and analyzing the main challenges to international security, and for assessing policy responses across the world. IPE: examines international exchanges of money and trade, including how they have changed over recent decades. The course also looks at problems of under-development and debt; the role of non-state actors; as well as the growth of regionalism and globalisation in the contemporary world economy.

7 Required courses, cont. (Politics) Comparative Politics What does ‘comparative research’ involve? How can it help us to explain political processes and events? By using comparison as a method, and drawing on a wide range of cases and themes, the course will enable students to better understand key debates and developments in political science (and beyond).
