International Diploma: Level 3 Four Components: Core and three additional components Core: Choice between three A levels or BTEC Extended Diploma BTEC Certificate in Work Skills Plus Level 3, equivalent to one AS Extended Project Level 3- free choice of subject, equivalent to one AS AS Global Perspectives- provides opportunity to demonstrate global awareness, equivalent to one AS International Diploma will be equivalent to 4.5 A levels There will be UCAS points for all components with the exception of Global Perspective (should be in place shortly) DB... Information on AS Global Perspectives The As in Global Perspectives will involve and engage students in the issues and debates that will shape the world in the 21st Century such as: International Trade, Global Justice, Conflict and Climate Change. The qualification builds on themes taken from GCSE Citizenship Studies and places elements of Geography, Government and Politics and Religious Studies into a real world context. The AS can be taught by any teacher with a humanities background. Centres can use the Level 3 Extended Project to make this up to an A2 equivalence. Unit 1 Understanding Global Perspectives Externally assessed % of the total Overview of content Concepts of community Understanding global identities Overview of Assessment Externally set examination comprising two sections. Section A includes multiple choice and short answer questions arising from resources. Section B includes an essay question. The examination is 1 hour 15 minutes in duration DB... Information on AS Global Perspectives (2) Unit 2: Being an effective global citizen Externally assessed % Overview of content: Global issues Global citizenship activity Overview of assessment Externally set examination comprising three sections. Sections A and B include a choice of questions from global issues based on source materials. Section C includes questions on the student’s activity. International Diploma Qualification structure: Through the use of curriculum mapping, some optional units can be applied to different courses. Eg. Art and Design, Engineering, Media, Mandatory units: core units in each course Optional units: over 100 optional units in some areas.
