2012 CITYOF RICHMOND HEALTHCARE SYMPOSIUM HCA’s Support of Primary Care Practitioners

HCA’s Commitment to the Growth and Expansion of Primary Care is provided through a variety of resources: Physician Employment Physician Recruitment Assistance Physician Integration –Supply Chain –Information Technology Physician Relations and Outreach

Physician Employment HCA Physician Services strives to support community residents through our outpatient physician practices: –Movement towards the Patient Center Medical Home model –Utilization of Advanced Practice Provider’s to provide walk-in and urgent care availability and extended hours, and –Community Outreach initiatives (Healthy Aging, Caremore) HCA supports the private practice of medicine, and employs providers based on strategic need when alignment with community based practitioners is not available. Employment provides a number of benefits to our physicians: –Sign on/Relocation assistance; –Infrastructure and Resource support services; –Operational Management and Oversight; and –Security from changes in the medical practice business model.

Physician Recruitment Can only be offered if there is a Community Needs Study proving there is a need for a certain specialty in the geographic service area of the hospital Sourcing candidates and posting positions to obtain CVs Compensation can be provided by the hospital normally for one year in compliance with Stark guidelines Physician is required to practice in the community for 3-4 years If the physician joins an existing practice, there can be no mileage restriction (non compete) in the contract with the practice

Physician Integration – Supply Chain HCA provides physician offices the opportunity to participate in our AdvantageTrust Group Purchasing Program Medical and Office supplies are available through contracted distributors There is no cost to participate in this program, but members are required to participate exclusively with Healthtrust

Physician Integration - Information Technology All Practices can access patient information by remote connection to our facilities. There are several methods based on the need of the practice, the simplest being through a Virtual Desktop which allows access to Meditech, PACS, and various other applications. Providers with established Electronic Health Records can receive patient information directly into their EHR. Providers without EHRs can receive patient data through the use of a Dropbox which is managed by the office and can eliminate faxes. Providers desiring to implement an EHR can purchase eClinicalWorks and Allscripts EHR systems at the HCA negotiated rate.

Physician Relations Team Supports Physician alignment and quality patient experience by: –On-boarding new physicians in the community –Providing educational programs and PR opportunities –Promoting HCA rural specialty clinics and physicians –Identifying communication and operational issues –Connecting Family Practice Physicians with Specialists –Facility Leadership outreach to the community –Coordinating Health Fairs and Screening Events –Promoting the quality of services and staff within the hospital
