PROGRAM SPECIFICS Girls on Guard Module 1 -- This is the most popular course taught in the series. It is centered on the "Stay with People" principle and covers the most common sexual assault scenarios. (Sexual assault scenarios means you will actually learn how to escape from the very same positions in which rapists carry out their attacks.) This module is especially effective for attacks in parking lots, parking garages and other areas where it is imperative that you not be taken to a secondary location where you can be raped and murdered. The innovative method developed here is to start the student in the worst position possible -- Once this concept is mastered, all of the other attacks seem easy by comparison. Students learn to effectively defend against this position as well as chokes, hits, and grabs. They learn to escape the dreaded and deadly "blitz" attack from behind as well as how to defend their space and keep an attacker from conducting a successful "interview". As it relates to your personal safety, your body isn't your only weapon. We will discuss: Prevention - Awareness - Avoidance; all of which are terms that need to become part of your vocabulary and part of your arsenal. Learned Behaviors: The way you think influences the decisions you make -- the way you perceive people -- and how you REACT in emergency situations Girls on Guard AWARENESS: Who is at risk? If you are a woman, you are at risk. Your attacker has probably done this before – he is experienced. You are not- Do not let him catch you off-guard. Girls on Guard Module 2 -- This module centers on the "Go to People" principle and is probably the module most often taught initially in high schools and universities. (Although the techniques taught in both modules are relevant and effective in all of the scenarios mentioned.) This module covers date rape scenarios and provides the tactics and techniques students need to defend against an attack in a secluded area and escape to a populated area. It is designed to defend against attacks that can be perpetrated by acquaintances and, considering that 75% of all attacks are committed by someone who knows you, this module could be one of the most practical.

Your Personal Safety is Important We teach effective methods of self-defense that are easy to execute and remember use during times of stress. This training will teach you to React in a way that is appropriate to the situation. Part of what you'll learn is: "What NOT TO DO!” We will cover information obtained from law enforcement studies: Based upon Department of Justice studies, when attacked, “You double your chances of success when you fight back... that women who resist are not injured anymore than women who don't resist." You do NOT want a perpetrator to take you off to some remote location – that will guarantee a worse outcome! STATISTICS & LINKS: From the National Organization for Women Violence Against Women in the United States: Statistics ( DOMESTIC VIOLENCE "According to the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, women experience about 4.8 million intimate partner-related physical assaults and rapes every year." SEXUAL VIOLENCE "According to the National Crime Victimization Survey, which includes crimes that were not reported to the police, 232,960 women in the U.S. were raped or sexually assaulted in That's more than 600 women every day." THE TARGETS "Women ages are at greatest risk of nonfatal domestic violence, and women age 24 and under suffer from the highest rates of rape. The Justice Department estimates that one in five women will experience rape or attempted rape during their college years, and that less than five percent of these rapes will be reported." Girls on Guard of Colorado – in association with & the Women’s Self Defense Institutewww.defenduniversity.com “Getting into the attacker's car when he pulls a gun … Most attackers don't want to shoot you...they want you to get into the car so that they can drive you to a deserted place …. Don't comply. “ Here are the most common mistakes women make : from rapeescape.com/articles “Trusting a clean cut, honest looking stranger. I have seen mug shots of every sex offender in the state of Florida. They do not look like monsters. “ “Not locking your doors while driving. I have read several cases where the attacker simply walks up to a woman's car while she's at a traffic light and jumps in with his gun or knife drawn.” “Pulling over when a man drives alongside of you pointing at your car pretending something is wrong. If this happens, drive to the nearest well-lit and populated gas station …. Never pull over.”
