VOSP CPS Technician Training System - Overview VOSP support for CPS Trainings (Technician, Update, Renewal, Special Needs, Instructor Development). CPS Technician training course, 3-4 days. VOSP supports 1-3 instructors, after host organization pays for 1st instructor (e.g. for a 10 person class VOSP will support 1 instructor). A 1-5 instructor to student ratio. VOSP provides a stipend of: $700 for a Lead Instructor, $600 for a Co-Instructor. Instructors are responsible for hours/day taught (minimum 6 hours/day). Con tract “Short Form Contracts” – includes a State form “STD 204” and CPS Instructor verification (Safe Kids Certification wallet card). Once CDPH paperwork is completed by our Contracts Management Unit, the Instructor will receive an executed contract that needs to be signed and returned. Needs to be completed 8 weeks before submitting a VOSP CPS Course Request Form. A total of 3 MONTHS before class, be in touch with VOSP to start contract process. Short Form Contracts to be renewed every state fiscal year (July 1 – June 30). Up to $4, each state fiscal year. CDPH processes invoice in 45 days. Payment received by Instructors a total of 2 months after invoicing CDPH.

VOSP CPS Technician Training System – Lead Instructor/Host Agency Training Lead (either the Lead Instructor or the Host Agency) must complete and submit this application to Claudia Angel, VOSP at and register the course with Safe Kids at eight (8) weeks prior to course start All trainers requesting a stipend must have a current contract in place with CDPH/VOSP prior to training dates. Contact Claudia Angel to set-up a contract, this process will take four (4) to six (6) weeks. Lead Instructor will verify number of participants for training 10 days prior to training and understands that if the class ratio for particular training is not met, VOSP can change the number of Instructor Stipends provided. Lead Instructor will provide each Instructor with a copy of the sample invoice on Page 4 of this application as well the necessary documents needed to submit along with their invoice. All Instructors submitting an invoice will need to provide the information required per the sample invoice.

VOSP CPS Technician Training System – Lead Instructor/Host Agency Send all information to VOSP –Claudia Angel – –Kate Bernacki – VOSP will support 1-3 instructors, after host organization pays for 1 st instructor. –Thus with a 10 person class, VOSP will support 1 instructor. –Always a 1-5 instructor-to-student ratio. –Lead Instructor is in touch with VOSP 10 days prior to training to confirm number of participants and thus number of instructors VOSP will support. What happens if a Lead Instructor (LI) is not able to be present for the entire class? Lead instructors have a lot of responsibility. They are required to be there the entire time and make sure that the course runs smoothly, giving the technician candidates the best possible course while following all the policies and procedures. Things don’t always go according to plan. If you find out before class starts (or even on day one) that you will miss all or part of the course find a replacement lead ASAP. This should happen not just locally, but online. To edit the lead instructor, open the course profile and click on 3. EDIT COURSE. What if you are in the middle of the course and there is an emergency? The spirit is to be sure that the course is correctly administered and led following all policies and procedures. If the LI gets temporarily called out on an emergency, they are still responsible for the course. They should appoint a seasoned instructor who is familiar with course administration as their proxy in the interim. This should be documented before leaving to ensure a smooth transition while they are out and when they return. This documentation should be complete enough to address any concerns or issues following the course and kept in your course file. Ideally, the emergency substitute is an approved lead. Having a fellow instructor who is a lead is always a good idea. Everyone should feel confident that the course will be managed appropriately. The lead is still 100 percent responsible for managing and running course. Emergencies are a perfect topic for the mandatory pre-course meeting. We often focus on student emergencies or weather emergencies, but instructor team emergencies also happen. Mentoring instructors on course management and policies is always a good idea. Should an emergency arise that necessitates the lead leaving the facility, and there are any questions, they should Safe Kids without delay. This is for any instructor on the team. Ask questions! Everyone on the instructor team has a responsibility to ensure that courses are run appropriately. Courses are truly team efforts! See the website for further information.
