HAND-MEDDIATED BIOFIELD THERAPIES

QUOTE TO BEGIN “OFTEN HANDS WILL SOLVE A MYSTERY THAT THE INTELLECT HAS STRUGGLED WITH IN VAIN.” C.G. Jung

HAND-MEDDIATED BIOFIELD THERAPIES Biofield means: –Energy field –To increase energy field around the body –Using different forms of energy for diagnosis and healing –Also conscious and unconscious thoughts considered as energy field around the body according Dr. Gerber –So, change in conscious and unconscious thoughts may have healing power

HAND-MEDDIATED BIOFIELD THERAPIES Three most common therapies in this field are: –Therapeutic Touch (TT) –Healing touch (HT) –Reiki All these therapies using hands on or near body to help with healing process. We should remember the healing is in the area of body, mind, and spirit.

THERAPEUTIC TOUCH (TT) The origin of TT goes back to 1970 and our own nursing field. Dr. Dolores Krieger (PhD, RN) is considered the founder of TT in USA. Dr. Krieger studied with Dora Kunz a past president of the Theosophical Society of America and a “healer.”

THERAPEUTIC TOUCH (TT) TT means energy field interaction between nurse and client. TT theory was advanced based on Roger’s (1990) nursing theory which is based on: –“Unity human beings” –“Energy fields are the fundamental units of people and their environment.” –“Human–environmental process is linked to energy field concepts such as openness, mutual process, dynamic unity and capacity to establish pattern.”

THERAPEUTIC TOUCH (TT) Basic principles: –Human and environmental fields are a continuous mutual process. –Human and environmental fields cannot be separated. –So, the nurse’s energy field is unified with the client’s energy field. –So, a knowledgeable nurse in the field of TT, will assist healing and well-being of the patient.

THERAPEUTIC TOUCH (TT) Later Dr. Herbert Benson and Dr. Joan Borysenko studied body’s innate “relaxation response” and it’s relation to self-healing (1980).

THERAPEUTIC TOUCH (TT) In deed, in 1997, Dr. Joan Borysenko, in her famous book, The Ways of the Mystic wrote: “ Each person is unique and important to the whole, we call God. If every part of the body tried to be the brain, the eyes, or the heart, there would be no body. The lungs, the liver, the gallbladder, the intestines, the hands, feet, and fingers-every part is necessary and precious to the whole.” Borysenko, J. (1997) The ways of the mystic: seven paths to God (First Edition) Hay House, Inc: Carlsbad, CA Please ponder on above thoughts.

HEALING TOUCH (HT) HT was developed by Janet Mentgen. Ms. Mentgen was a TT practitioner first. Ms. Mentgen had over 20 years of working with human energy system, and she studied the work of Alice Bailey and other healers. In 1990, she developed a five-course sequence in HT, which became the first certified program by American Holistic Nursing Association (AHNA). The basic HT sequence is a process to influence the human energy field.

HEALING TOUCH (HT) Indication for HT are: –Promote relaxation –Relieve pain –Reduce anxiety, tension, and stress –Promote restoration of the body –Promote a sense of well-being

HEALING TOUCH (HT) The basic HT sequence is for energy field to become: –Clear –Energized –Balanced To clear, energize and balance, energy field is necessary for: –Physical well-being –Emotional well-being –Mental well-being –Spiritual well-being

HEALING TOUCH (HT) The procedure for the HT sequence are: 1.Intake To Identify the client’s reason for the treatment. To obtain permission for the healing work. 2.Healer preparation Healer starts with centering and attuning which place the healer in a condition to be able to assist another person. 3.Pre Treatment Energetic Assessment Han Scan, with gentle movement of the hands scanning the body to determine the area in the energy field needs healing.

HEALING TOUCH (HT) 4.Healing Touch intervention To clear congestion or density from the energy field. 5.Post Treatment Energetic Assessment Reassess the energy field to determine the effect of the work 6.Ground and Release Assist the client to be in the present moment and connected to the earth. 7.Evaluation and Feedback Evaluate the client’s experience, and ask for feedback.

REIKI This is a Japanese/ Tibetan technique. The word Reiki means “spiritually guided life force energy” The word Reiki is made from two Japanese words: –“Rei” means God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power. –“Ki” means life force energy.

REIKI Dr. Usui, a Japanese Physician used Reiki first on himself and family member. Later he opened a clinic in Tokyo in Ms. Hawayo Takata, an American Japanese women introduced the Reiki to American culture later. She was a student of Dr. Usui.
