Facts about Pyramids The pyramids are the only example of the Ancient Seven Wonders of the World still standing. They are on the west banks of the River Nile. The pyramids are the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Egyptians built the pyramids between 2700BC and 1000BC.

Did you know? There are over 90 pyramids in Egypt. The first pyramid built was the Step Pyramid at Saqqara. It was built for the Pharaoh Pijoser more than 4600 years ago. The Ancient Egyptian word for pyramids is Mer.

More Facts Ancient Egyptians were buried with their belongings and the tomb walls were painted with scenes from the person’s life. The pyramids were built for kings as tombs or memorials of themselves.
