The Pyramids of Egypt By Manuel Quinonez Period 10

2 Background There around 80 known pyramids in Egypt.
3 of the largest pyramids were built in Giza. The largest and most famous pyramid is known as the “Great Pyramid” which was built for pharaoh Khufu. The Second largest pyramid which is next to the Great Pyramid was built for Khufu’s son Khafra. That Pyramid is guarded by the Sphinx. The third largest pyramid was built for Menkaure.

3 Purpose Ancient Egyptian built pyramids as tombs for their pharaohs after they died. These pyramids were also to show their power since only pharaohs were built pyramids. The pyramids were supposed to shelter the pharaoh in the afterlife.

4 Chief Architects The people who built the pyramids in Egypt were people who lived in villages not slaves and foreigners.

5 How was math involved? Pythagorean theorem was used to find the angle of direction of which the stones were placed which made sure that each side of the pyramid was perfectly straight. Trigonometry was another mathematical tool used to build the pyramid. Stuff like tangent, cotangent, and inverse cotangent was used.

6 Where there any contributions to the advancement of civilization, architecture, or engineering?
Egyptian pyramids did not contribute to any advancement of civilization, architecture, or engineering.

7 Was the architecture ahead of its time?
Yes the Egyptian pyramids was ahead of its time. The reason for that is because the each of those stone blocks that were used to build the pyramids weighed thousands of pounds and since ancient Egyptians did not have any machines that could be used for lifting those heavy stone block that we have available today that was what made it ahead of its time. Another thing that made it ahead of it’s a time was the fact that the pyramids were so straight and aligned without the help of modern construction machines we use today.

8 Does it still exist today?
Yes these pyramids still exist today and some are even restored like the 3 pyramids in Giza.

9 My Opinion I believe that the pyramids of Egypt are truly amazing. Especially since they were so aligned without the help of machines. Another thing that is amazing is how math was used to help make the pyramids.

10 Extra Credit Another architecture in Egypt is the Wall of the Prince which is a series of 13 fortresses built along the eastern bank of the Nile river.
