Aerospace Engineer Adam Audet

My Goal and Why I chose this career path  I have always been interested in aircraft and space flight.  Designing new and innovative things intrigues me.  I find improving existing designs and finding more effective ways to do things is challenging and fun.

Job description  Aerospace engineers design, build, and test various aircraft and aircraft parts.  They also design, and test space craft and missiles.  A typical day includes designing new aircraft or aircraft parts or overseeing the design of new technology.  Average salary is $104,000

Skills Needed  Important tasks of an engineer is to design new technology and run various tests.  They spend most of their time conducting tests on various objects and making improvements.  Higher level engineers oversee these tasks being preformed by lower ranking employees.

Working Conditions  Most engineers conduct their research within a lab or studio.  Occasionally they are able to go out and test full size aircraft systems.  Pro’s include; working as a part of a team and conducting research.  Con’s include; long work hours, and participating in testing less as you increase job positions. (interview)  Future demand is high due to the rapid advancement of technology.

High School Education  Suggested classes to take in grades 9 and 10 include; English, mathematics, science, and creative arts.  Classes in grades 11 and 12 include; statistics, chemistry, physics, drafting and design, algebra, calculus, astronomy, and computers.

Additional training  In order to become an aerospace engineer you must have your bachelor’s degree in engineering.  It usually takes four to five years to get your degree.  Afterwards, aerospace engineers continue to study new technology and the latest developments

College  I wish to go to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. It is the best aerospace engineering university in the world.  There are campuses located in Daytona Beach, Florida and Prescott, Arizona.  Tuition costs $30,720, and room and board costs $9,340.  I want to go there under the U.S. Air Force ROTC program. The program pays for 4 years of tuition and allows you to become an officer in the U.S. Air Force.
