 Children who live in improvised areas have a greater risk of developing mental health issues. This issues ranges from learning difficulties, posttraumatic stress disorder but this project focuses specifically on depression and anxiety.

 Families and children are classified as being in poverty based on income  The factors of the child developing mental health issues are cause mostly by socioeconomic status rather then race/ethnicities (McLeod, 2013)  In single mother households, the children are more likely to live in poverty

 Environmental factors such as inadequate  housing, food, clothing, inadequate  medical care causes these children to develop mental health issues  Depression, anxiety, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder tend to have a major impact on children living in poverty.(Gonzolaz, 2005)  Leaves children vulnerable to teen pregnancy, school failure, substance abuse.

 The amount of time a child spends living in poverty is a strong predictor of determining whether the child will develop mental health issues.  Anxiety formulated as a result of a child living in poverty leads to the child developing feelings of unhappiness, issues with dependency in adulthood.  Stress caused by the conditions of living in poverty cause the child to develop anxiety  Child abuse and neglect tend to be more likely to occur in low income households

 2020 psychiatric disorders will increase over 50 % to become one of the 5 most common causes of morbidity, mortality, and impairment in children  On 1 in 5 children in need of mental health services will receive it  Services to urban children is limited  Depression and anxiety is significant to this population  Oppression and economic oppression  Female household 5x more like to be poor  Affect academic outcome  Spoke on internalized oppression-stigma
