Where is Greece? ~Greece is in Europe. It’s in the south east of Europe. It has lots of island and it’s just bigger than Ireland.

The Gods The Greeks believed in loads of Gods. They had one for water, one fire, they had one for everything.

Zeus ~Zeus was there supreme God. They made sacrifices for him. Zeus lived on mount Olympus with 11 other Gods.

Facts ~Greece’s capital is Athens which means gods. ~Greece’s currency is Euro ~Greece doesn’t have good farming. ~The only thing that grows are olives. ~Greece exports olives to other countries. ~Greek cities fought for land. ~Greece struggled with the current ressesion. ~Greeks made temples for the gods. ~Greece’s population is 10,816,286.

Olympics ~In honour of Zeus the Greeks held an Olympics. They had events like wrestling and the armoured race.

Children ~Long ago only boys went to school. They went at the age of seven. They learned reading writing and music. Children played with dolls, tops and pottery toys.

Islands And Mountains ~Greece has lots of islands like Crete, Cos, Corfu, Rhodes. ~Some Greek mountains are Mt. Olympus and Mt. Pindus.

Greek Houses ~Traditional Greek houses are made out of mud brick. They had small windows a tiled roof and one door. They also had mosaic floors.

Greek Soldiers ~Long ago Greek soldiers had a shield and a spear. ~Greece had navies long ago and now ~A Greek soldier is called a hoplite and a shield is called a hoplon. ~Even now all men need to be in the army for at least 9 months.

Theatres ~The Greeks invented theatres. They built them in hillsides. The actors wore masks and dressed up like their characters. The most famous theatre is Panthenon in Athens.

Crafting People crafted their own armour. They also carved pictures into their walls.

Greek Flag The Greek flag is blue and white, with a white cross in the top left corner as you can see on the background.
