Had many rooms Had a center courtyard Walls and floors were covered in mosaics Made of mud brick Very simple homes 2 or 3 rooms Floors were dirt Had to fetch water from a well or a public fountain Cooked outside over a campfire

3 Temples Greek life was dominated by religions so their temples were the biggest and most beautiful This temple was dedicated to two gods, Hephaestus and Athena

4 3 Capital Orders The Greeks developed 3 architectural systems/designs called the orders: - Doric - very sturdy - top (capital) is plain - used in mainland Greece - Ionic - two scrolls at the capital - fancier than the Doric design - Corinthian - has a taller capital - Is more elaborate than the other two - capital has acanthus leaves sprouting from the column

On all 4 walls Sculptures cut out of the stone walls Went all the way around the Parthenon

7 Greek Theater central place of formal gatherings in ancient Greece.

8 Greek Stadiums all the city-states of Greece would gather and compete in athletic events The Olympics started in these stadiums

9 The White House in Washington D.C.
The Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C.
