2. Questions of the Day:  What method of transportation was provided to the people of Ancient Greece?  Primary method of transportation was walking. Some people travelling long distances were required to use a form of water transportation while others had chariots or donkey carts. Horses ridden with a saddle was a later form of transportation.  What were the 3 different classes of Spartan society? 1-Official citizens were only men born in Sparta, considered the First-Class. 2-Second-Class consisted of people from other city-states or foreign countries who were allowed to own businesses but could not become citizens. 3-Third-Class consisted of slaves.

3. Religion  The Ancient Greeks worshipped several different gods and goddesses, said to take the form of human being.  Temples were constructed all across Greece and Greek territories for the worship of god and goddesses.

4. Children  Infants who were born with disabilities or disfigurements or children who contracted sickness were often abandoned on a hillside and left to die.  During the times of Ancient Greece, tradition dictated that young boys would be sent away and young girls were expected to learn domestic skills.

5. Sport  The men of Ancient Greece were given the opportunity to participate in the Olympics.  Some of the events that were being played at the time included: -Long Jump -Drama -Throwing -Poetry -Boxing -Wrestling -Horse Racing

6. Food and Drink  Greeks of ancient time, as well as of today, picked grapes to squeeze the juice from which was later used to make wine.  Fishing was an important source of food for the Greeks Mullet, sturgeon, eel, octopus and squid were commonly fished.

7. Schooling  Only boys were permitted to receive an education.  Subjects that were taught: -Reading -Writing -Math -Music -Poetry -Sports (Gymnastics)  Girls were required to learn domestic skills by following the example of their mother.

8. Homes  Traditional homes of families in Ancient Greece were built from: -Mud -Bricks -Pottery tiles (for roofing)  Consisted of two or three rooms.  Constructed around an open air courtyard.  A men's dining room, and perhaps a woman's sitting area could also be included in the design.  Greek women were permitted to leave their homes for only short periods of time. It was assumed that they could enjoy the open air in the privacy of their courtyard, as a majority of Ancient Greek family life centered around the courtyard.  Windows were constructed high above the ground level to combat possible thieves.

10. Clothing  Men’s and women’s clothing was very simple., donning linen in the summer months and wool in the winter months.  Most families made their own clothes usually by the mother, her daughters, and female slaves.  Men and women paid close attention to the appearance of their hair.

11. Dancing and Music  The art form of dance was regarded as important to the Ancient Greeks as it was believed to improve one’s physical and emotional health.  Men and women rarely participated in dance together.  There are over 200 ancient Greek dances, including: -Comic Dances -Warlike Dances -Dances for Athletes -Religious Worship, -Weddings Dances -Funeral Dances -Celebratory Dances
