Key Definitions Placement Tests Diagnostic Tests Used to determine whether a student has skill sets necessary to achieve success in college-level courses, and if remediation is needed. Diagnostic Tests Used to “drill down” to determine student strengths and areas of need in reading, writing, and mathematics content areas. Provides the high school with a detailed assessment of student skills. Combined Placement and Diagnostic Used for course placement AND provides diagnostic information to assist with targeted remediation.

Developmental Education ACCUPLACER 2014-15 Version: Align to College/Career Competencies defined by Ivy Tech Faculty Curriculum Committees and DOE Curriculum Specialists Include Diagnostic component to identify specific student weaknesses Allow Teachers to use Diagnostic information to provide more targeted ‘just in time’ remediation Align to Ivy Tech ACCU/MFL Online Intervention program (optional) Include Writeplacer Essay - writing sample - required for certain dual enrollment courses Developmental Education College Ready Adult Basic Education Collaborative process First of its kind in the nation College Ready (CR) Knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in entry-level community college and university courses Developmental Education (DE) Secondary education (high school) knowledge and skill levels Adult Basic Education (ABE) Below secondary education knowledge and skill levels

Test Design Changes FY14 to FY15 National/Classic Diagnostic Customized/IDOE Version for 2014-15 Reading Comp (40 items) Arithmetic (40 items) Elm Alg (40 items) Reading Comp Placement/Diagnostics (40 items) Elm Alg Placement (12 items) Diagnostics (24 – 32 items/varies) Math Group A (strands 1-4) Math Group B (strands 5-8) Math Group C (strands 9-11) Point out that test administration time should remain relatively the same – will get more information (placement and diagnostic). Some Dual Enrollment Courses may still require Sentence Skills or Writeplacer.

ACCUPLACER 2014-15 Version Reading Reading – combined placement and diagnostic (Ivy Tech developed) 40 test questions, requires 1 test unit Ivy Tech - score of 69 or greater is considered college ready Ivy Tech will accept for dual enrollment – student may have to take Writeplacer for certain courses

ACCUPLACER 2014-15 Version Math Math – separate placement and diagnostic exams Placement – Elementary Algebra (National ACCUPLACER test) 12 test questions Diagnostics – 11 math domains (divided into 3 tests, Ivy Tech-developed) Math Group A – 32 questions Math Group B- 32 questions Math Group C – 24 questions Ivy Tech - score of 92 or greater is consider college ready college algebra, transferable course – 4 year university pathway Ivy Tech will accept for dual enrollment Score of 45 on EA placement test for some Math courses – non transferable courses
