Spicycles is part of the ‘Intelligent Energy Programme’ of the European Commission Started January 1, 2006 and runs for three years to December 31, 2008 Pascal van den Noort, Velo Mondial

Six European Partner Cities are involved: Rome (IT) Göteborg (SE) Barcelona (ES) Bucharest (RO) Berlin (DE) Ploiesti (RO) Assisted by 7 institutional partners But SpiCycles is not just for these cities...it is for you too

The aim of Spicycles is to:- show that cycling’s modal share can be increased in cities with different conditions. 4 types of actions are being used support, facilitate and stimulate the activities of the six cities, and also give a positive boost to local cycling policies involve other cities and disseminate widely

Four actions of SpiCycles are:- 1.bike-sharing schemes 2.communication and awareness-raising campaigns; 3.integration of cycling planning into the overall spatial and transport planning; 4.building local partnerships - involvement

Spicycles - a positive impact on... cycling modal share energy consumption emissions attitudinal change local stakeholders involvement integration transport/spatial planning

But, how will we measure success, and also involve you? all partner cities will be benchmarked other cities – you – are invited to do this too we use the VeloInfo online system. This assesses cycle policy in four ways: Preparation, planning, implementation, monitoring & evaluation

The results will go on an Interactive Cycle Map of Europe we aim to benchmark 66 cities cities receive a ‘score’ in bronze, silver, gold or platinum Other information can be added to the map about your city…..but have you seen the google earth map?

Here we are in Budapest …..

Cities are marked on the map Data is ‘under’ the pin, and is accessible to all

You can be involved in... receiving electronic project newsletters receiving press releases seminars and workshops we will organise visit the Spicycles website, where you can add your city details and see others too
