Connecting Minds 2010: The North American Psychology Undergraduate Research Conference June 4 th and 5 th, 2010 Kwantlen Psychology Department Keynote lecture by Dr. Albert Bandura “Going Global with Social Cognitive Theory”. For more information and to register:

1)Summarize your findings and the rationale for the study. 2)A clear statement of whether or not your results support your original hypothesis. 3)Discuss similarities and differences between your results and the work of others  confirm your conclusions. 4) Discuss how these results support an overall theory. Use data/argument to rule out alternative theories. A Potential Outline for Discussion

5) State any limitations to your study and HOW these limitations may have influenced your results. ** only if sample is <30 should you use sample size as a limitation 6) Identify the practical and theoretical implications of your study, suggesting improvements on your research, or proposing new research (somewhat brief). 7) Finally, make a general conclusion about the main points of your study. Discussion

Discussion /30 (/15)  Clarity of Writing (organization, depth, logical arguments): /15 –Were the ideas organized into coherent paragraphs and formed a logical progression? –Was a clear overall statement regarding support or non support of your research question provided? –Have possible problems, such as confounding variables and alternative explanations for the results, been discussed? –Have the practical or theoretical applications and/or implications of the study's findings been discussed? –Have suggestions for future research been made?  Quality of Writing (grammar, spelling): /10 –Did the ideas flow and were they easy to follow? –Were there awkward or unclear passages? –Were there many grammatical and spelling errors that detracted from the ideas of the paper?  Style: APA formatting: /5

Abstract Comes after title page no longer than 250 words your abstract should describe the purpose of the study and the experimental procedures, outline the major findings (can include significance levels but no other statistical details), and state the main conclusions

Final Paper Do not rely on my feedback only; edit yourself (and others!) –Especially for continuity errors Take out irrelevant information – ie make the paper focused Make your paper APA error free! See 5 th APA manual if you have footnotes, appendices, etc.
