SAINT IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA

-Born : Azpeitia, 24th Oct Died :Rome, 31st July 1556

-Saint Ignatius of Loyola was a soldier for the spanish Coron, a poet, and a catholic man famous all over the world.

-His real name was Eneco/Iñigo Lopez de Recalde, but he changed it into Ignatius.

-He lived in Loyola betwen Azpeitia and Azkoitia. -He was the youngest of his family so he didn’t inherit the fortified tower and lands which always were for the firstborn. -He fought for the spanish king in several battles.

-When he was young he was badly wounded in his leg while he was fighting for the Spanish army against the legitimate king of Navarre during the siege of Iruñea-Pamplona in 1521.

-While he was getting over his wounds, he read two books which led him to devote his life to the Catholic religion.

-After spending some years studing, he founded the Compañía de Jesus or Jesuit Order with another six friends. -In 1537 he travelled to Rome, there Pablo III allowed the new order and became priests.

-Some years later he was chosen “Superior General” of the Jesuits.
