Introduction Good Morning Welcome from the League Staff I am blessed with a great staff (some here & some back at office) Will have an opportunity to meet and hear from them during this general session

Staff Reports Things are going well at the League office & for the League in general. Currently have completed Sport Seasons in 9 sports. Many things to celebrate, but also have a few challenges/concerns. I will first update you on two areas:  Coaches Education Program  Non-school employees (mandatory)  School employees (optional)  Offered 4 times per year ( 1 Fall; 1 Winter; & 2 Spring)  Willing to come to your district or school if requested.  See AD Notebook for dates.

 Wrestling  Communication issue with Weight Management Program  Will provide more clarity to process.  Will formulate a committee to insure wordings and intent are correct. At this time the staff will address you with some information and field possible questions.

Legislative Issues With all the issues the League is faced with during the school year, we must remain mindful of State Legislative involvement that may impact the League’s constitution and operational procedures. The League is fortunate to have friends in the State House of Representative who have worked in our schools in the field of athletics. Two that immediately come to mind are:  Jackie Hayes - Dillon HS Athletics Dir.  Mike Anthony – Union County School

Legislative Issues con’t Bill H.3978  AED’s in all schools and annual training for staff personnel Bill H.4342  Charter schools (brick & mortar or virtual) students participating at traditional public school in attendance area.  Bill S.481  Create a foundation to write grants to help offset the cost of employing a Certified Athletic Trainer in member schools.

Other League Updates Playoffs & State Finals Sites in Selected Sports  Class A Football (Div. I & II)  Pending site options. Benedict College and The Citadel  Class AA Football  Exploring the possibility of two championships Class AA, AAA, & AAAA  Pending site options The Citadel; Clemson; and Univ. of S.C.  Competitive Cheer (All Classes)  Bi-Lo Center (Greenville, SC)

Other League Updates con’t  Upper State Basketball Finals  Bi-Lo Center (Greenville, SC) Lower State Basketball Finals  Pending site options The Citadel and The N. Charleston Coliseum State Basketball Finals  Pending site options Bi-LO Center; Colonial Life Arena and The Citadel Lacrosse offers a state championship this year in girls and boys.

Proposed Amendments Art. V; Section 1B –Legislative Delegates (Newberry County School District)  Number of delegates per Classification Art. VII; Section 15 – Ineligible Participant (Pickens HS)  Participation without an approved physical.

Celebrations and Concerns Hired a new assistant commissioner to begin July 1 st.  Mr. Skip Lax – currently principal of Williston – Elko HS Weather conditions for Spring sports have been cooperating so far. One Immediate Concern  Practice & selection of ineligible transfer students.

Initiatives New NFHS FREE course. The course designed to educate coaches, parents, officials and students about concussions. Will be available this fall. Again, League staff is available to meet with regions during scheduled meetings. and students about concussions.
