B EARS Ms. Robinson’s 2 nd Grade Class

B ABY B EARS Baby bears are a lot like baby humans Born naked and helpless They grow hair after 10 days Since they are born naked they are dependent on body warmth Mothers Their Den (Home)

B LACK B EAR I am a Black Bear. Even though I am called a black bear, I come in various colors:  Brown  Black  White  Blue I usually weigh about 300 pounds. I eat just about anything and am quite fond of honey! I like to climb trees and usually climb when I am in danger.

B ROWN B EAR I am a Brown Bear. When I go fishing for food, I like to belly plop into the water! Even though I am quite large, I run very quickly. I can walk upright just like a human. I eat grasses, berries, insects, fish, and other small mammals. I rarely, but sometimes eat larger animals as well.

P OLAR B EAR I am a Polar Bear. I love to eat seal and I will patiently wait for hours until I find my food. One of my favorite things to do is swim! Thanks to my large and slightly webbed feet it is quite easy. I do not hibernate like other bears. I tend to be more aggressive than other bears.

A SIATIC B LACK B EAR I am a Asiatic Black Bear. I am similar to the black bear, but I have a white patch of fir on my chest. The fir is often shaped like a V. I eat bee’s nests, insects, invertebrates, small vertebrates, and fruit. Not much is known about me because I have not been studied as much as other bears.

S LOTH B EAR I am a Sloth Bear. I am a relatively small bear. I like to eat termites, yummy! I have quite a bit of hair on my back, but my belly is quite bare. I have large ears and hear very well. I have a lot of teeth, but because what I eat is in the dirt, my teeth are not in good shape.

S PECTACLED B EAR I am a Spectacled Bear. My name comes from the markings which surround my eye. My fur can be anywhere from brown to black. I am a small bear. I ear a wide variety of food such as: Mice, rabbits, birds, berries, grasses, and more! I build nests in the top of trees to use as a feeding platform and a bed.

G IANT P ANDA B EAR I am a Giant Panda Bear. I am quite misunderstood due to my rare qualities. I have a thumb so I can grab onto my bamboo. One way to mark my territory is to scratch trees. I am a vegetarian, but I only in bamboo for the most part. I also enjoy climbing

G RIZZLY B EAR I am a Grizzly Bear. I can be a range of different colors.  Grayish  Yellow-Brown to Dark-Brown  Black Despite my large size, I can run very fast. I climb trees to find honey. I can swim quite well. I use my claws and powerful jaw to fight, catch my food, and mark my territory on the trunks of trees.

S UN B EAR I am a Sun Bear. I am a small bear, but not just a small bear, the smallest of all bears. My teeth are flatter than other bears. I eat termites, birds, small mammals, and even bits of oil palms, and other crops.

K OALA B EAR I am a Koala Bear. When I am a baby, I am called a Joey. I stay in my moms pouch until I am about 6 months old. In my community we can have our own trees which may overlap with other trees. I communicate with my mother by making clicking or humming noises. If I am in distress, I shriek loudly.
