Introduction 2: Internet, Intranet, and Extranet J394 – Perancangan Situs Web Program Sudi Manajemen Universitas Bina Nusantara

BWD.04 Bina Nusantara University 2 Internet Internet is: –a network of networks of computer hosts –able to seamlessy communicate –usually through the Internet protocol (IP) and Services

BWD.04 Bina Nusantara University 3 Intranet An intranet is: –an exclusive version of internet on an organization –which enables people inside the organization –to share information easily

BWD.04 Bina Nusantara University 4 Extranet An extranet is: –a private network –that uses the Internet Protocol and the public telecommunication system –to securely share part of a business information or operations –with suppliers, vendors, partners, customers or other businesses

BWD.04 Bina Nusantara University 5 World Wide Web (1) A system of Internet servers that support specially formatted documents. The documents are formatted in a script called HTML (HyperText Markup Language) that supports links to other documents, as well as graphics, audio, and video files.

BWD.04 Bina Nusantara University 6 World Wide Web (2) This means you can jump from one document to another simply by clicking on hot spots. Not all Internet servers are part of the World Wide Web.

BWD.04 Bina Nusantara University 7 There are several applications called Web browsers that make it easy to access the World Wide Web; Two of the most popular being Netscape Navigator and Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

BWD.04 Bina Nusantara University 8 Web Page Web Page is: –a document on the World Wide Web. Every Web page is identified by a unique URL (Uniform Resource Locator).

BWD.04 Bina Nusantara University 9 Home Page Home Page is: –The main page of a Web site. Typically, the home page serves as an index or table of contents to other documents stored at the site.

BWD.04 Bina Nusantara University 10 Web Site (1) Web site is: –a site (location) on the World Wide Web.

BWD.04 Bina Nusantara University 11 Web Site (2) Each Web site contains a home page, which is the first document users see when they enter the site. The site might also contain additional documents and files. Each site is owned and managed by an individual, company or organization

BWD.04 Bina Nusantara University 12 URL (1) Abbreviation of Uniform Resource Locator, the global address of documents and other resources on the World Wide Web.

BWD.04 Bina Nusantara University 13 URL (2) The first part of the address indicates what protocol to use, and the second part specifies the IP address or the domain name where the resource is located.

BWD.04 Bina Nusantara University 14 URL (3) URL (3) For example, the two URLs below point to two different files at the domain binus.ac.id. –The first specifies an executable file that should be fetched using the FTP protocol; –the second specifies a Web page that should be fetched using the HTTP protocol: ftp://

BWD.04 Bina Nusantara University 15 HTTP (1) Short for HyperText Transfer Protocol, the underlying protocol used by the World Wide Web.

BWD.04 Bina Nusantara University 16 HTTP (2) HTTP defines how messages are formatted and transmitted, and what actions Web servers and browsers should take in response to various commands. For example, when you enter a URL in your browser, this actually sends an HTTP command to the Web server directing it to fetch and transmit the requested Web page.

BWD.04 Bina Nusantara University 17 HTTP (3) The other main standard that controls how the World Wide Web works is HTML, which covers how Web pages are formatted and displayed.

BWD.04 Bina Nusantara University 18 HTTP (4) Currently, most Web browsers and servers support HTTP 1.1. One of the main features of HTTP 1.1 is that it supports persistent connections. This means that once a browser connects to a Web server, it can receive multiple files through the same connection. This should improve performance by as much as 20%.
