Sedentism Or sedentarization

Define the term sedentarization. When did it occur? Sedentarization is a term that is applied to the transition from a nomadic lifestyle to a society which remains in one place permanently. It means living in one place permanently. This happened around 12 000 BC

Archeology Archeology is a science that uses artifacts found in the ground to study ancient societies.

Key stages The two key stages are sendentarization and the development of agriculture.

Where did this happen? Sendentarization slowly began in the Middle East, in the region of the Fertile Crenscent.

The Fertile Crescent

What present day countries now occupy the Fertile Crescent? Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Siria and Iraq.

What kinds of territories or natural resources are ideal for farming? Water (rain, fresh water), sun, good soil (rich or fertile), animals that are easily domesticated.

Why do you think sendentarization began in this region? Because everything they need to grow food and good animals to domesticate are found in the Fertile Crescent.

Define Paleolithic: It is the time period before neolithic. This period is when humans were nomadic. They were all hunter-gathers, there was no sedentarization.

Describe life during the Paleolithic period. People lived in a natural habitat and ate what they hunted and gathered. They were learning about new tools and learned how to control fire. They were nomadic. Also called the old stonage
