Welcome to Oslo and BI!

Residence permit For students from the EU/EEA countries: make a preliminary registration online at: selfservice.udi.no please bring the following documents to the MSc administration at the latest August 22 (we will send the documents to the immigration authorities for you): 1. a copy of your EU identity card (both pages) or passport (picture page). 2. Proof of private health insurance or European health insurance card (both pages) valid for the whole period of your study programme.) HAND WRITTEN “Statement of sufficient funds” stating that you have sufficient funds/finances to support yourself. For the year 2013/2014 the amount is NOK 9700 per month (NOK 97 000 / 10 months). Print-out of the confirmation for your online registration

Residence permit cont. For students holding a non EU/EEA citizenship: An appointment with the police must have been booked in advance to activate your residence permit. Address “Oslo Police District, Department of Immigration”: Schweigaardsgate 15B (T-bane: Grønland) The following documents must be submitted to the Police: Residence permit letter from UDI (or a copy of the application if you have not received the letter yet) Admission contract Passport (Entry visa if applicable) Scholarship contract (if applicable) 7 day deadline not applicable for students in Oslo. Give BI’s address as sending address for your residence card. How to apply for your personal number Once you receive your residence card you must register your move to Norway by filling out the “Notification of move to Norway from abroad” Fill out the form provided by the Norwegian Tax Administration The form must be submitted at Skatt Øst, no need for an appointment together with: BI Admission Letter Residence Card/Registration Certificate Housing contract Tax Office, ”Skatt Øst” in Schweigaardsgate 17B (co-located with the Service Center for Foreign Workers) Your personal number is needed for health services, to open a bank account and to apply for a tax card (if you plan to work part time).

Norwegian Personal Number This number must be updated in our system as soon as you receive it You must bring your bank card or a confirmation from the tax office (Skatt Øst) personally to C3 We will make a certified copy for you

Health and Insurance EU/EEA students must have a valid health insurance for the total duration of their stay (European Health Insurance Card or equivalent) Non-EU/EEA students staying for more than 6 months will automatically become members of the National Insurance Scheme once they report their move to Norway Membership or the European Health Insurance Card entitles you to the same health service benefits as Norwegian citizens. It is not valid on travels outside of Norway, and it does not cover dental care and medical treatment of illnesses contracted prior to arrival in Norway. You will still have to pay fees when visiting the doctor. The fees are non-refundable.

Norwegian Language Course BI offers three Norwegian Language Courses at beginners level this semester Each course will be taught twice a week: Mondays and Wednesdays, 18:00-20:45 or Tuesdays and Thursdays 18:00-20:45. Courses run for 8 weeks, starting on Monday, 1 September Course fee: NOK 1800,- Registration from Wednesday, 20 August: Sign up at the International Office (C3). Payment in cash is required at registration. Bring your Student Card There are 30 places in each course. Places are distributed on a ”first come – first serve” basis. Registration deadline is Monday, 25 August, at 15:00. Please note: class attendance and active participation are expected, and students must be ready to put in extra work to follow progression in class The Norwegian Language Course does not give any credits
