6 6 Q: Who should apply for ARC?

7 7 A: Degree students with resident visa, who plan to stay in Taiwan for more than 6 months should apply for an ARC.

8 8 Q: Is there a deadline for applying for an ARC?

9 9 A: Students with resident visa should apply for ARC within 15 days of arrival.

10 10 Q: What will happen if I do not apply ARC within 15 days of arrival?

11 11 A: Students with resident visa who failed to apply for an ARC within 15 days of arrival could be fined from 2,000NTD up to 10,000NTD, depending on length of the delay in submitting the application.

12 12 Q: Where should I go to apply ARC?

13 13 A: 1. At your local NIA service center  Individual application: submit application at counters for foreign passport holders  Group application: submit group applications at a reserved counter (advanced appointment by phone is required) 2. At your school (Registration Day Only)

15 15 Q: What documents should I prepare to apply for my ARC?

16 16 A: Documents for applying ARC Application Form Passport and Visa 1 photo (2”x 2” taken within a year, same format as Taiwan ID) Proof of Registration (Student ID with registration stamp)

17 17 Q: How much should I pay for the ARC?

18 18 A: The application fee for ARC is 1,000 NTD per year.

19 19 Q: What would be the validity of my ARC?

20 20 A: If you have already registered for your academic program, the ARC will be valid for 1 year from your date of entry.

21 21 Q: What should I do if I cannot complete my registration in school within 15 days after arrival because I arrived Taiwan early?

22 22 A : Within 15 days of entering Taiwan, prepare an Application Form, Passport (original and copy), Photo (2”x 2” taken within a year and same format as Taiwanese ID), and Admission Letter (original and copy), apply at your local NIA Service Center. Because the registration is incomplete, the ARC will have a 6 month validity. (6 months from entry date) Notice: Once the registration is complete, before the ARC expires, please bring your passport, ARC and stamped student ID (original and copy) to your local NIA Service Center to apply for the full 1 year validity of your ARC. There’s no fee for this extension.

23 23 Q: How long does it take to make an ARC?

24 24 A: The processing time for an ARC is 10 working days. You can come to the NIA Service center to pick up your ARC with the original receipt.

25 25 Q: Can I apply for an ARC if I only have a visitor visa?

26 26 A: If you have a visitor visa and plan to stay in Taiwan for more than 6 months, you will need to go to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to change your visitor visa to a resident visa before applying for an ARC.

27 27 Q: When should I apply for my ARC extension for next year?

28 28 A: The extension date begins 30 days before the expiration date of your ARC. For example, if your ARC is going to expire on 08/31, then you can apply for the ARC extension after 07/31. Extension period: 07/31~08/31

31 31 Q: What should I do if I can not come to apply my ARC extension in person?

32 32 A: You may ask an agent to submit it for you. However, a power of attorney and attorney’s ID is required.

33 33 Q: How much should I pay for the ARC extension?

34 34 A: The application fee for ARC extension is 1,000 NTD for one year extension.

35 35 Q: What should I do if I lost my ARC?

36 36 A: You should go to the local NIA Service Center and request a replacement ARC.

37 37 Q: What documents should I prepare for a replacement of the lost ARC?

38 38 A: Replacement for a lost ARC Application Form Passport 1 photo (2”x 2” taken within a year, same format as Taiwan ID) Proof of Registration (Student ID with registration stamp) Declaration or proof of reporting a lost ARC to the police

39 39 Q: How much should I pay for the replacement of a lost ARC?

40 40 A: You will be charged 500NTD for the replacement of a lost ARC.

41 41 Q: What should I do if I lost my passport?

42 42 A: Reporting a lost passport G to local NIA service center to report a lost passport in person. Prepare an application form, 2 photos (2”x 2”), and proof of personal identity. Bring the certificate of lost passport to the embassy or consulate of your home country to apply for a new passport. You need to go to NIA Service Center to update your information after obtaining your new passport or travel document.

43 43 Q: What will happen if I overstay in Taiwan?

44 44 A: You will be fined from 2,000NTD to 10,000NTD depending on the length of the overstaying period.

46 46 Q: Is it possible to apply for an ARC extension if I have already overstayed?

47 47 A1: If you continue to study in Taiwan and your overstaying period is less than 30 days, you may re-apply for ARC extension after paying the fine.

48 48 A2: If you overstayed over 29 days, you will not be allowed to re-apply for your ARC in Taiwan. You must pay the penalty and leave Taiwan to apply for a new visa. After you re-enter Taiwan, submit a new ARC application.

49 49 Q: Should I report to the NIA if I change my address?

50 50 A: You should report your change of address to the NIA within 15 days. ARC holders who fail to do so will be fined.

52 52 Q: What will happen if I drop out/quit or graduate from school early?

53 53 A1: NIA will cancel your ARC if you drop out/quit or graduate from school early because the residential reason is no longer valid.

54 54 A2: In such case,you should return your ARC and contact the local NIA service center to inform the designated date of exiting Taiwan.
