FY16 LDRD Proposal Presentation Lead Scientist: Directorate: Division: Presentation Date: Proposal Title

Project Overview This is your “elevator pitch” slide You are presenting to a review panel of scientists who are not necessarily experts in your topic. In one slide, you are asked to explain the concept, what you are planning to achieve and the impact of the potential outcomes for the field and for SLAC’s strategic vision.

Project Overview: Strategic Alignment Describe the relation of the proposed work to the SLAC Strategic Plan How does this project align with SLAC’s strategic vision (four pillars)? Does this work significantly enhance a SLAC core capability? How does this work fit within the SLAC strategic initiatives? How does this proposal meet the DOE LDRD program objectives i.e. to promote innovative scientific and technological excellence?

Project Description: Background Describe the project’s scientific or technological concepts Describe work that is being performed already at SLAC and elsewhere on the topic, indicating the current state-of-the art. (Use as many slides as necessary)

Project Description: Objectives Describe the project’s objectives Explain the breakthroughs expected from this work and how these will advance the current state-of-the-art described earlier. (Use as many slides as necessary)

Project Description: Approach Describe the research approach/method Describe any risks or challenges and your assessment/mitigation to them (Use as many slides as necessary)

Project Description: Anticipated results/deliverables Provide a brief description of the anticipated results or deliverables of the project. Provide supporting information on your anticipated results by showing examples of prior work, simulations etc. (Use as many slides as necessary) Sample images

Project Description: Budget brief and resources Total FY16 funding request Total FY17 funding request, if needed Total FY18 funding request, if needed Total LDRD project request Budget break-down per FY: Percent of lead scientist’s salary # of Postdocs/staff/engineers (% of funding for salary for each person) % of funding for M&S % of funding for Travel % of funding for Other? Please provide a table that contains the following information: Please describe any other resources necessary for your project e.g. access to laboratories, large-scale computing, etc.

Future opportunities: roadmap beyond the LDRD period Provide a 5yr roadmap of activities and possible outcomes from the proposed topic. Explain your vision beyond the scope of this LDRD. How will this piece of work motivate further scientific or technological efforts beyond the LDRD timeline?

Future opportunities: funding alignment with agencies/initiatives Identify future funding opportunities (DOE, other federal or private agencies, industry) that align with this science or technology. (You may wish to browse the Stanford Dean of Research website for an overview of relevant current/future funding opportunities- or investigate the funding opportunities fitting your research profile by signing up to HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) Be specific in terms of: funding agency, targeted program area, and why you think this is the right fit
