E-navigation in Artic waters Challenges seen from class society

Facilitate the workload onboard and for shore-based functions. E-navigation in short E-navigation is a concept intended to secure simplified and coordinated electronic handling of information onboard and ashore in order to: Increase safety of navigation and the protection of the environment in coastal zones and at sea. Contribute to higher efficiency and reduced costs in the maritime sector. Facilitate the workload onboard and for shore-based functions. - Provide a basis for improved contingency services

Challenges in northern/artic areas Communications in North/artic areas What kind of services are needed? What kind of communication is available? Will e-Nav services adapted to communications means be available? Equipment adaption to the environment Type approved equipment is normally tested to -25 degrees Celsius for exposed equipment Testing to lower temperatures? Other tests in low temperatures (vibration, shock, etc.) Ice/de-ice Will equipment like e.g. communications and position equipment function with ice layer? Do the equipment need de-ice means?
