The Estonian E-Varamu portal Anneli Sepp University of Tartu Library, Estonia

The E-Varamu (E-Repository) portal has been created as a central access point to the digital and also non-digital materials of different Estonian research and heritage institutions, i.e museums, archives and research libraries. E-Varamu allows swift access to the databases, e- collections, research and data collections created by the major heritage and research institutions in Estonia.

Members Libraries: Tartu University, National Library, Tallinn University, Tallinn University of Technology Arcive: Estonian National Archive Museums: The Estonian Literary Museum, web- based information system MuIS Parter: Fraunhofer Institut IAIS, Germany

Partner ( ) Fraunhofer Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e.V

The parties of the E-Varamu are all data providers from whom input information is imported and consolidated, analysed, indexed and saved in a unified form into the system’s index database and link collection. On the basis of that index, it is possible to create different output lists into the systems of third parties. E-Varamu portal will be integrated into Europeana in 2016.

Version 1:

Services for partners Unifying metadata of documents from different libraries, museums and archives. Unifying materials by the same topic from different institutions. Collaboration between different institutions in order to unify guidelines for metadata creation.

Services for users The portal simplifies searches by reducing the number of clicks and ensuring easy access to the main Estonian databases and also by highlighting less known and less used databases. The portal enables the creation of a personalized desktop where the user can save suitable links and searches. Finding semantic relations between digital items, creating cross-references and suggesting them to the user is also important.
