MICE PID, 6 Dec 2007 V. Palladino Introduction to the meeting Introduction to the meeting 1 ) TOF I shielding (Vittorio introduces discussion) 2) Discussion & update of action list Status of new quotes (Alan, Don?, Ghislain, Wing) Setting up a no-cage alternative ( Maurizio, Ghislain) 3) KL shielding : final iron configuration (Ludovico & Ghislain) L&G will have been discussing the Fe budget in the mechanics, and any need of further TOSCA calulations. L. may also have re-looked into magnetic contact with the "Virostek" donut. 4) Discussion : adjustments necessary to PID downstream layout (the size of the TOF shielding units among others) and prospects to sign it offhttp://people.na.infn.it/~palladin/TOSCAData.ppt

MICE PID, 6 Dec 2007 V. Palladino Introduction to the meeting TOF I shielding Discussion & update of action list Status of new quotes (Alan, Don?, Ghislain, Wing) * Wing and Ghislain will get quotes immediately from European vendors for the complete baseline package. Ideally, information on the TOF cage will be available separately from that for the "Virostek shield" and its mounting brackets. (1) (1) a budgetary estimate of shipping costs to Fermilab should also be included Alan Bross to get further quotes from Chicago-area vendors, also separated into TOF cage and Virostek shield portions if possible. He should also get an estimate from University of Mississippi(2). Setting up a no-cage alternative ( Maurizio, Ghislain) * Maurizio to refine and document in writing his estimate--recognized as only approximate--for a local shielding option. Summarizing Vittorio to organize a PID meeting with the experts (Bonesini, Bross, Gregoire, and Lau) on Thursday, December 6. The goal of the meeting will be to document, for each option, the technical capabilities, cost, and schedule impact. This information should be sufficient to permit a discussion by the Executive Board, and a decision on how to proceed, during the week beginning December 10. Vittorio will be responsible for preparing the summary, in consultation with the experts. * Blondel will arrange for an Executive Board "discussion" either by phone or by , during the week of December 10 * It was agreed that the interface between the downstream Virostek shield and TOF2-KL-SW should be kept simple. The detectors will be supported from the floor and some number of tapped holes will be added to the Virostek shield "in the field" to make the attachment
