Programme 7 Sightseeing

Teaching objectives ● Learn how to introduce local scenic spots and show your business partners around your city; ● Know the principles when arranging a tour for your business partners; ● Practice listening for specific information;  ● Practice communicating with business partners in the process of sightseeing.

introduction  There is a saying in English “ All work and no play make Jack a dull boy. ” So it ’ s necessary to do something relaxing after a period of hard work. Sightseeing is a very relaxing way to ease tension. In business environment, when great progress has been made in the relationship with your business partners, it ’ s advisable to arrange sightseeing or a short tour. Your business partners may have been looking forward to one of the scenic spots or historical sites in your city. If you do what they intend to do, they will think you considerate, which will have a positive effect on your future cooperation. In addition, by communicating with them in non-business environment, you can know more about your partner, and vice versa.

Introduction  However, when you intend to entertain a business partner with sightseeing, you should first take into his or her interest into consideration. It ’ s suggested that you should ask for his or her opinion in advance. If he or she has no idea, you can recommend some. The arrangement should neither too tiring nor too boring. Inviting your business partners for sightseeing is a social activity as well as business activity which should not be taken lightly.

Case 1  You are the interpreter of ABC Company, your business partner, Mr. smith is on his business trip to China. You are in charge of accompanying him to tour the city today. Introduce some places of interests in your city and show him around.
