Body Structure and Organization Topic 3202D Tissue Types and Functions Melinda Klockziem

Overview  Cells  Tissues  Organs  Systems

Tissue  Cells that are similar get together to perform a particular function.

Types of Tissues  Connective Skin, fat (adipose), cartilage, and bone  Muscle Smooth, cardiac, and skeletal  Neural Brain, spinal cord, and nerves

Organs  Cells and Tissue work together to form organs  Organs (examples) Heart Stomach Skin Bone Brain

Systems  Organs and tissues combine to form systems

Musculoskeletal System  Structure, Protection and Movement

Cardiovascular System  Continuous circulation of the blood

Respiratory System  Provides oxygen and removes carbon dioxide

Nervous System  Controls the other organ systems

Digestion System  Provides intake of nutrients for the body

Urinary System  Removal of toxic wastes from the body and maintains body’s water and electrolyte balance.

Reproductive System  Provides the means for animals to propagate their species.

Endocrine System  Provides chemical control over many body functions.

Integumentary System  The covering of the body the skin and its associated structures.
