Places to Go to Get Help Math Tutoring Center Walk-in program Available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 2:35 to 3:35 in Room 659 Peer Tutoring Center Walk-in program in Room 810 during lunch 1st lunch on Tues. and Thurs. 2nd lunch on Mon. and Wed. Tutors are prepared to help with ALL courses For more information contact the GBHS Peer Tutoring Center at GBHS Learning Center (a.k.a. Library) Walk in program offers a quiet place to study Librarian and Peer Tutors will be available as a resource Available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 2:45 – 3:45. Student Tutors There is a list of student tutors available from your counselor. These are good students who have expressed an interest in tutoring others. Student tutors typically charge $10-$15 per hour. Students will need to contact the student tutors on their own to work out arrangements for tutoring.

What should be done this year?  Testing for all colleges – SAT 1 or ACT  SAT 2’s (additional requirement for UC’s) – Take two tests (in different subjects) among the following subjects: 1. English Literature 2. Math 3. History 4. Science 5. Foreign Language Align test date with the conclusion of a course taken in subject area to be tested  Complete all testing this year; test again in Sr. yr. if needed (most colleges permit testing thru Dec. of Sr. yr.). – Colleges will take your best scores  GBHS is a SAT test center in May and June

PSAT  Listen to announcements to pick up results in December in the Career Center  Analyze strengths and weaknesses at PSAT website (noted on results printout)

SAT/ACT  4 scores sent for free (if marked at testing site)  Extra scores sent for fee (handle online)  For CSU’s use code = 3594 for SAT  Using this code will make your SAT scores available to all 23 CSU’s  GBHS code =  Community College Reminders  ACT/SAT’s not needed  Assessment required for placement in English and Math (take in spring of Sr. year – check with Career Center for more info)

Early Assessment Program (EAP)  Early assessment opportunity for CSU’s and Sierra College  In junior year students should take the optional Cal Standards tests in Math and English (with Essay) while taking the STAR test  Exemption from ELM (Entry Level Math) and EPT (English Placement Test) possible with sufficient score

NCAA – Clearinghouse  Required if planning to play division one or two sports in college.  Apply at end of junior year  Application available online at  Must also send ACT/SAT score. Code is 9999.

NCAA Clearinghouse Registration  Go to NCAA Clearinghouse and follow all directions for registration.  Transcripts - You will need to send one transcript shortly after registering and then another one at the end of the 12 th grade year. To do this, be sure to complete the necessary form (available at the front desk) including the $3 fee per transcript. Include a stamped, addressed envelope if you want the school to send it directly. Transcript #1 gets mailed immediately Transcript #2 gets mailed after graduation

College Visits – Do I Really Need to Do That This Year?  Schedule visits in the Junior year and in the summer before your Senior year  Check College Visitation Schedule (Career Center)  Attend Spring College Open Houses

Get Organized Create a college folder containing:  College visitation information  Volunteer work  Work record  Awards  Brochures, college correspondence, etc.
