Once upon a time in Colombia… First Big Problem!

Once upon a time in Colombia… Only Male Members !!

Once upon a time in Colombia… Second Big Problem !!

Once upon a time in Colombia… 90% of leaders: Electronics Students !! 90% of leaders: Electronics Students !!

Big Problems! Our Branch became stagnant

Why is this a problem? If your branch have only male members, and every one of them have the same career, your team will have problems: You do not have interdisciplinary work in your branch !! If your branch have only male members, and every one of them have the same career, your team will have problems: You do not have interdisciplinary work in your branch !!

Why is this a problem? If you have two people of the same sex, and the same career, these people very probably think the same kind of things, and think only one kind of solution for a problem.

Why is this a problem? So, in our branch we had almost the same kind of people, thinking almost the same kind of things: Too few solutions and no new ideas for our activities.

This is the problem: Your branch must to be like the Real World: You must to work with women and men; you must to work with people from different careers. Your branch must to be as real as possible: This is the GOLD life!!

The GOLD World: Real World: You must to work with women and men from different places, cultures, kind of minds, professions, ages … (teamwork) Please, do not be lost in your professional life ! Real World: You must to work with women and men from different places, cultures, kind of minds, professions, ages … (teamwork) Please, do not be lost in your professional life !

Team Work: Synergy

Keywords:  Synergy  Real Teamwork  Interdisciplinary  Synergy  Real Teamwork  Interdisciplinary

Needs:  Interdisciplinary work.  More feminine members.  Get a “little-real-world” in our branch.  Our few women membersfelt alone.  Our women classmates do not had participation in any kind of group in our university.  Interdisciplinary work.  More feminine members.  Get a “little-real-world” in our branch.  Our few women membersfelt alone.  Our women classmates do not had participation in any kind of group in our university.

Girls do not liked our Branch? They said: “The IEEE Student Branch is a group of male electronics students. They were a closed group, with no interdisciplinary work, no interdisciplinary research and no activities in different areas”

Girls were the solution Interdisciplinary work and synergy: women have new knowledge:  Systems Engineering  Industrial Engineering  Urban Engineering  Computer Networks Engineering  Software Engineering  Project Management Engineering Interdisciplinary work and synergy: women have new knowledge:  Systems Engineering  Industrial Engineering  Urban Engineering  Computer Networks Engineering  Software Engineering  Project Management Engineering

Girls were the solution  They have different kind of minds  Sense and Sensibility  Two different minds think more than one  Women and Men think different  Women and men working together think faster and better  They have different kind of minds  Sense and Sensibility  Two different minds think more than one  Women and Men think different  Women and men working together think faster and better

Dreaming a new dream One big solution !!

WIE is dedicated to:  RECOGNIZES women's outstanding achievements in electrical and electronics engineering through IEEE Awards nominations  ORGANIZES receptions at major technical conferences to enhance networking and to promote membership in WIE  PROMOTES IEEE Member Grade advancement for women to the grades of Senior Member and Fellow  ADVOCATES women in leadership roles in IEEE governance  PROVIDES assistance with the formation of new WIE Affinity Groups and supports ongoing activities  ADMINISTERS the IEEE Student-Teacher and Research Engineer/Scientist (STAR) Program to mentor young women in junior and high schools  RECOGNIZES women's outstanding achievements in electrical and electronics engineering through IEEE Awards nominations  ORGANIZES receptions at major technical conferences to enhance networking and to promote membership in WIE  PROMOTES IEEE Member Grade advancement for women to the grades of Senior Member and Fellow  ADVOCATES women in leadership roles in IEEE governance  PROVIDES assistance with the formation of new WIE Affinity Groups and supports ongoing activities  ADMINISTERS the IEEE Student-Teacher and Research Engineer/Scientist (STAR) Program to mentor young women in junior and high schools

WIE-AG Affinity groups provide the opportunity for members to network at a branch and a local level. Activities may include guest speakers, workshops and seminars. All members are encouraged to join and participate in their local group activities to promote growth within the WIE. Currently, there are over 40 WIE Affinity Group Chapters and Student Chapters worldwide.
