Dr. Jean A. Gleichsner grew up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin where she was involved in the high school chapter of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and 4-H. She went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she graduated with highest distinction, receiving B.S. degrees in Agricultural Education (1982) and Agronomy (1983). She then attended Oregon State University where she earned both a M.S. and a Ph.D. in Weed Science in 1987 and 1988, respectively. Dr. Gleichsner joined the Agriculture Department at Fort Hays State University in 1988 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in Over the years, she has taught ten different courses. She has served as the Delta Tau Alpha (DTA) Chapter Co-advisor ( ), Chapter Advisor (1993- present) and has served as the National DTA Advisor since She is actively involved in campus and community activities and was recognized for her service to the College of Health and Life Sciences in 1994, 1998 and She has also received several teaching awards. Dr. Gleichsner served a two-year term ( ) as President of the Kansas Association of Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (KACTA). She served a two- year term ( ) as Central Regional Director of the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA), Vice-President of NACTA ( ) and President for NACTA ( ). Dr. Gleichsner served as President of the Phi Kappa Phi at FHSU ( ) and is currently serving as Public Relations Officer.

Sunday, March 19, : Opening sessions/ business meetings 5-9: Ag Olympics, Tex-Mex dinner Monday, March 20, : Business meetings, Quiz Bowl 12-9: Tour of Prifert, Pilgrim’s Pride, Southwest Dairy Museum 7-8:30: Texas BBQ in Sulphur Springs Tuesday, March 21, : Business Sessions 11:30-1:00: Banquet and Closing Ceremony We plan to be finished by 1:00 to let me get back on the road for the return trip home. The Headquarters hotel (Holiday Inn Express) will have some rooms available on Saturday night, if necessary. Travel time from Commerce to DFW is about 1 hr 10 min, without much traffic. Here is a tentative schedule for this year’s convention. Check the national site for periodic updates.

I hope that everyone’s semester is off to a good start. We are excited about the upcoming convention and encourage everyone to attend. Also, please to remember to me any happenings of your chapter so that I may include you in the newsletter. Pictures would be great also. Have a great spring semester! Hope to see you all in March.
