September 2010

Fall Greetings I hope the fall semester finds you well as things are getting kicked of this school year. I am sure this time in our lives holds many lessons to learn and good times to be had. As we work through this semester and the semesters to come I encourage us all to work diligently and differently to engage the study of agriculture in new ways. I hope everyone across our national scope is finding excitement in this new semester and I, along with our other national officers, look forward to serving you all this year. Kyle Ferrell

News from around the Country The DTA Chapter at Fort Hays State University held it’s first meeting August 31 st at which it elected officers and began planning for the fall semester. The DTA Chapter at Sam Houston State University held it’s first chapter meeting on September 13 th and is starting the semester off strong with many activities as well as many service outreach initiatives.

Items of Business Don’t Forget New member lists and fees are due by Nov. 1 st. Be sure to make this deadline so new members will be able to have their certificates this semester. Middle Tennessee State University will be hosting the 2011 DTA National Convention on March 4-6, so be sure to be looking out for updates and more information regarding the convention in the coming weeks. Chapters please continue to submit your Form 40’s to me in order that I may highlight your efforts through our newsletter by sending them to my email which is listed below. kwf 07 a@acu.edu

National Officer Close-up I am a Senior at Sam Houston State University and am majoring in Horticulture and Crop Science with a minor in Secondary Education. Coming from a very strong educational as well as agricultural background (my mother is a teacher and my father runs the family-owned custom-harvesting business) I soon realized a passion for agricultural education. Hopefully one day I will be a highly effective teacher, but before I break out into the education field I plan to achieve my master’s degree in agricultural sciences with either an emphasis in forage crops or agricultural education. I hope this next year is as amazing as the last three have been! Seeing the leadership and drive associated with our students is enough to keep me motivated to be an exceptional council member as well as a DTA member you can all be proud of! NATIONAL VICE PRESIDENT-SOUTH Casey Page
