Are issued by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and specify: 1.Student’s profile of graduating the teacher training studies 2.The professional competences of the graduate student 3.The subjects to be taken during studies 4.The content of the studies 5.The minimum number of hours Teachers’ education standards

Possible ways to become a teacher in Poland By completing the pre-service studies in 1st step only, or 2 in steps: Step I – 3 years long, at the bachelor level that provide competences for teaching 2 subjects in a primary school or in gymnasium. Step II – 2 years long, complementary at the master level that provide competences for teaching 1 subject at the post-gymnasium level (eg. in lyceum). By completing post- graduate studies in order to gain essential competences in a chosen subject or required pedagogic-psychological competences There exists a system of grants at the Ministry of Education supporting the professional development of teachers, e.g.: (1)Responding to the needs of reform (like teachers of science for the primary school – in the part) or (teachers of management for the upper secondary level - still currently) (2)By providing the competences in teaching an additional subject

Requirements on a Higher Education Institution to organize studies for teachers  The Teachers’ education standards must be held  The Higher Education Institution must provide graduate studies in each subject of interest (e.g. physics, chemistry etc.)  Teachers must study within dedicated courses (in the frame of adequate subject of studies)  The requirements are the same for both graduate and post-graduate studies The way the studies are organized depends on the Higher Education Institution.

The studies for teachers are held in 8 faculties: 1.Philology 2.Historical and Pedagogical Sciences 3.Physics and Astronomy 4.Biological Sciences 5.Social Sciences 6.Chemistry 7.Mathematics and Computer Science 8.Earth Science and Environmental Management University of Wroclaw (1)
