7. Vilnius Pedagogical University
The origin of Vilnius Pedagogical University can be traced back to 1935, when the first higher teacher training establishment of Lithuania - the National Pedagogical Institute.

8. On 20 May 1992, Vilnius Pedagogical Institute was named Vilnius Pedagogical University by a resolution of the Supreme council of the Republic of Lithuania.

9. The Organizational Structure of the University
The institution comprises 10 faculties - those of Physics and Technology; Natural Sciences, History, Lithuanian Philology; Mathematics; Pedagogy and Psychology; Faculty of Philology; Faculty of Social Sciences.
There are 52 departments; 14 scientific divisions (an institute, 2 scientific centres, 11 scientific laboratories); a library; a publishing house; the Centres of In-Service Teacher Training, Language Teaching, Information, Culture and Sports; a University Secondary School and an outreach teaching base in Tamosava for field practice in Biology and Geography.

10. There are over 13 000 students at the University presently.
