The Woodwind Family  The Woodwind family is made up of flutes, clarinets, oboes, bassoons, and saxophones.

Clarinet  The clarinet is played by pressing on keys with the players fingers.  A reed, which is on the mouthpiece, is used to produce sound.

Oboe  The oboe is played by pressing down on different combinations of keys, like the clarinet.  Instead of having one reed, like the clarinet, the oboe is played with a double reed.  The oboe is played by pressing down on different combinations of keys, like the clarinet.  Instead of having one reed, like the clarinet, the oboe is played with a double reed.

Bassoon  The bassoon is the lowest sounding instrument in the woodwind family.  It also has a double reed like the oboe.

Saxophone  A saxophone is like a clarinet, because it plays with a reed on it’s mouthpiece.  Saxophones are one of the main instruments in jazz music.  A saxophone is like a clarinet, because it plays with a reed on it’s mouthpiece.  Saxophones are one of the main instruments in jazz music.

The Brass Family  The Brass family is made up of trumpets, horns, trombones, and tubas.

French Horn  The french horn has the biggest range of all the brass instruments.  The player’s left hand presses on the valves, and the right hand is placed inside the bell.
