Surface: 5000 km2 Inhabitants: 2.5 million (population density: 493/km2 land) Demography: 14.5% > age 65 (will be 20% in 2030) People are strongly organised on the social level: the clubs and societies for sports, leisure and common interest count over 600,000 members The third top technological region on the European level with Eindhoven at the centre Many knowledge centres and top higher education Important service industries

Flashback: Umeå & Valencia Many issues are related to demographic change: labour market policy, elderly care, fertility, reconcilliation work and family life, intergenerational solidarity. The complexity is the interaction of the issues. AER Committee 2 should deal with demographic changes. However, how do we do that? We need a roadmap for demographic change.
