 Think of the suggestions on the previous slide  What you decide on should be vivid in your memory and clear  Do not begin stalling before you make a choice because you feel that you don’t have anything interesting to talk about.  A topic on its own is NOT interesting  you make it interesting  Choose a topic immediately!!!! HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR TOPIC

 Decide your purpose for giving the speech  Inform  Entertain  Convince  Curiosity  Outline your speech with a lot of detail  This will help you arrange what you talk about into the best order to create an overall picture  Explain your personal feelings, emotions, and reactions to the experience HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE SPEECH

 Practice your speech aloud in front of the mirror and friends  Continue practicing until you have memorized the sequence of events, NOT the words  The more you practice the stronger your speech will become MORE PREPARATION

 When you feel your speech is ready ask yourself these questions:  Does your speech merely list a series of persons, places, things, and time without telling what happened to these persons and things?  Is your speech about YOU only?  Do you have an introduction that grabs the audience’s attention and creates curiosity?  Do you have a conclusion?  “That is it” is NOT a conclusion FINAL EVALUATION OF SPEECH

 Speak clearly and loudly  Use your voice normally and conversationally  Arms and hands rest by your side unless you are gesturing  You can change your position in front of the class by walking to the right or left a few feet  Only do this once or twice  Brings more attention to your presentation  You may use ONE 3 x 5 card for notes during the speech  Do not let the card be a distraction  Speech is to be 3 – 5 minutes in length  Provide an outline for your teacher  You will be video taped while presenting WHEN PRESENTING
