Volleyball

What is Volleyball? Volleyball is a sport invented in 1895 in Springfield, Massachusetts. It can be played either indoors or outdoors. It involves a net, a ball, lines for a court, and anywhere from 2 players on a team to 6 players on a team. It can be played by both boys and girls. It is a Collegiate and Olympic sport popular throughout the world

Indoor volleyball Traditionally played with 6 players on each side. You have 3 contacts to get the ball over the net onto your opponents side. You can use your hands and forearms to play the ball, without the ball coming to a complete stop (catching the ball) Popular in high schools all across America for girls, and in certain parts for boys.

Beach Volleyball Traditionally played with 2 players on each side of the net Played outdoors in the sand. Also have 3 contacts to get the ball over onto the opponents side. Using your hands and forearms. Weather plays an important role in playing this. Less people on the court, which means more responsibility for the players.

Popular Volleyball Terms Serve The first contact of a “rally” where a player strikes the ball over the net from behind the end line Bump Refers to the passing motion when a player is receiving a serve. Set Usually the second contact, where the player uses their hands to deliver the ball to another player for the 3rd contact Spike The 3rd contact which is an aggressive attacking motion to get the ball to land on your opponents side.
