 Written by developers Ahti Heinla, Priit Kasesalu and Jaan Tallinn, who had also originally developed Kazaa.  Headquarters in Luxembourg.  Original initial names for project was “Sky peer-to-peer, which was shortened to Skype.  Acquired by E-bay in September 2005

 Skype is an application that allows users to make voice calls over the internet.  Users can call landlines and cell phones from their computers

 Skype allows users to receive calls on their computers dialed by a regular phone subscriber to a local Skype Phone number. ◦ Making conferencing much easier  Skype also has Video conferencing, which allows users to chat through video and audio transmissions.

 Skype uses Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology to make phone calls.  Skype is different from regular VoIP colients because of its P2P network, originally based on the Kazaa software.
