2 what is Voice over IP Voice over IP (VOIP) is a term that describes a technology that can carry voice, video and instant messages, voice or any media through Internet Protocol.

3 Components Components required for Voice over IP
1) PBX system (real time server):Private Branch Exchange server is responsible for connecting PSTN and VoIP telephony system that are used in the company. Functions creating connection between users, maintain, and end the connections

6 VoIP Clients Hard phone or voice over IP phone: Softphone:
It has telephone-like shape as but it function as a real computer system. Each client must have three things: password, username, extension number Softphone: software that install in the laptop or PC to enable VoIP communication e.g. Skype software

7 VoIP Clients Ordinary phone:
The normal telephone can use Voice over IP services if it connected to a special device ATA that enables converting from analog to digital signals.

8 Components 3) Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA):
It is a small, high dedicated computer which enables the use of ordinary telephone over the Internet. ATA. Functions: It provide analog interface for the telephone to communicate via Voice over IP. It is responsible for converting analog signals from ordinary telephone to digital form that used in data network and vice versa.

10 Advantages and disadvantages
Low Cost The voice and data send in the same network. Features: Free feature not like ordinary telephone (pay for each service) Disadvantages: No service during a power outage In case no electricity no VOIP communication. Voice over IP does not support emergency calls no trace to the location for the person using VOIP
