Voice over IP (VOIP) is a term that describes a technology that can carry voice, video and instant messages, voice or any media through Internet Protocol.

It has telephone-like shape as but it function as a real computer system.
Each client must have three things: password, username, extension number
Softphone:
software that install in the laptop or PC to enable VoIP communication e.g. Skype software

The normal telephone can use Voice over IP services if it connected to a special device ATA that enables converting from analog to digital signals.

It provide analog interface for the telephone to communicate via Voice over IP.
