Objectives Define origin, insertion, prime mover, antagonist, synergist, and fixator as they relate to muscles. > origin – attachment to the “stationary” bone (usually proximal) > insertion – attachment to the “moving bone” (usually distal) > prime mover (agonist) – contracts to cause an action > antagonist – stretches and yields to the agonist > synergist – muscles that contract to stabilize intervening joints and assist prime movers > fixator – stabilize the prime mover – steady the proximal end Demonstrate or identify the different types of body movements. List some criteria used in naming muscles.

Skeletal Muscle Activity: Part 2 Objectives Define graded response, tetanus, isotonic and isometric contractions, and muscle tone as these terms apply to a skeletal muscle. Describe three ways in which ATP is regenerated during muscle activity. Define oxygen debt and muscle fatigue, and list possible causes of muscle fatigue. Describe the effects of aerobic and resistance exercise on skeletal muscles and other body organs.

Skeletal Muscle Activity: Part 1 Objectives Describe how an action potential is initiated in a muscle cell. Describe the events of muscle cell contraction.

Overview of Muscle Tissues Objectives Describe similarities and differences in the structure and function of the three types of muscle tissues, and indicate where they are found in the body. Define muscular system. Define and explain the role of the following: endomysium, perimysium, epimysium, tendon, and aponeurosis.

Microscopic Anatomy of Skeletal Muscle - Objective Describe the microscopic structure of skeletal muscle and explain the role of actin- and myosin-containing myofilaments

Physiology of Circulation – Objectives Define blood pressure and pulse. Name several pulse points. List factors affecting and/or determining blood pressure. Describe the exchanges that occur across capillary walls.

Anatomy of Blood Vessels - Objectives Compare and contrast the structure and function of arteries, veins, and capillaries Identify the body’s major arteries and veins, and name the body region supplied by each.

B C E F H Bell Ringer – Name three of the labeled structures above.

Bell Ringer – 2/23/ Name the major veins that enter the heart. 2.Name the major artery that exits the heart.
