Definition of Venir In order to understand the expression “Venir de”, you must understand the meaning of the verb venir. Venir = to come

Present Tense Je viens Tu viens Il/Elle/On vient Nous venons Vous venez Ils/Elles viennent

When do you use Venir de? The expression Venir de has two uses. #1. Talking about a place of origin. #2. Talking about what you have just done.

Use #1 The first use of venir de is when speaking of someone’s origin. Ex. Fabio vient d’Italie. (Fabio comes from Italy) Guillaume vient de France. (Guillaume comes from France) Nous venons des États-Unis. (We come from the United States)

Use #2 The second use of venir de is to explain actions that were just completed For this use, venir de is always followed by a verb in the infinitive form venir de + infinitive Ex: Je viens de regarder un film. (I’ve just watched a movie.) Nous venons de jouer au foot. (We have just played soccer.)
