UofL School of Public Health and Information Sciences (SPHIS) is committed to the global practice of public health. – Dr. Craig Blakely, then dean of the Texas A&M School of Rural Public Health, and NUR Foundation started planning public health education in Lahore. – Now, as dean of SPHIS, Dr. Blakely has focused the school’s global initiatives public health education in Lahore. FMS, NUR Foundation, and SPHIS have entered into a formal relationship to establish an MPH program offered through FMS and administered by SPHIS. 04/11/142

FMS/SPHIS MPH Degree Program Termed “remote academic program” of SPHIS. MPH degree is awarded by University of Louisville. Curriculum and degree requirements are the same for an MPH regardless of instruction location. MPH instruction in Lahore and in Louisville are part of the SPHIS MPH program. Program graduates in Lahore and in Louisville are graduates of a CEPH-accredited school of public health. – Details on CEPH-accreditation next. 04/11/143

CEPH Accreditation Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) – Independent accrediting organization established in – Accredited schools and programs of public health in US, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Canada, and Lebanon. – Working with recently established (2011) Agency for Public Health Education Accreditation (APHEA) in European region. 04/11/144

CEPH Accreditation Represents a level of excellence in public health education that is recognized worldwide. Requires a year-long self-study using the extensive criteria established by CEPH. CEPH review team visits the site for an intensive four-day examination of the school or program both to validate the self- study and to interview faculty, staff, students, graduates, and employers. Council’s decision based on self-study, review team’s report, and site’s comments on the team’s report. – Accreditation ranges from two to seven years. – Decision often includes items that require additional work by the site and a follow-up report. Before the end of accreditation term, the site formally launches its next self-study to begin the accreditation process once more. Intent is for FMS to build its own accredited school or program of public health by capitalizing on SPHIS’s accreditation. 04/11/145

Features of FMS/SPHIS MPH Differs from most other MPH programs: – One of 51 schools accredited by Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) – Concentrations in all five core disciplines: Biostatistics Epidemiology Environmental and occupational health Health promotion and behavior Health management – Emphasis on applications of information technology in public health SPSS, a statistical analysis and data management software package used extensively in public health practice GIS, a geographical information system for mapping events, statuses, and other data 04/11/146

MPH Program Faculty Accreditation requires SPHIS faculty to be responsible for content and delivery of coursework. – FMS faculty teaching in the program will be appointed as adjunct faculty in SPHIS. Both faculties participate in program decisions. – Final decisions required to be made by SPHIS permanent executive faculty. Each course delivered by FMS faculty has a Louisville- based faculty assigned to help with content, delivery, and management of the course. – Course delivery and faculty communications supported by Blackboard, the learning management system used by UofL. 04/11/147
