Layer 1 CTP 7 4 banks of CXP optical transceivers. Each Transceiver has 12 Tx Links and 12 Rx Links, all to the same optical connector. The Tx and Rx channels will be split before arriving at the patch panel. The patch panel will accommodate MPO12 input connectors. 36 cards 48 Tx links per card 1728 Links.

Layer 2 MP7 Mp7 has two banks of 36 Tx links, and two banks of 36 Rx Links. A total of 72 Tx and 72 Rx Links Tx and Rx are on separate MPO 48 cables in groups of Cards 72 links per card 864 Links

Topology The trigger requires optical connections from each Layer one card to each Layer 2 card. Each fibre ribbon must be split to individual links and merged with fibres from other cards prior to connection with a layer 2 card. CTP7 Layer 1 Card MP7 Layer 2 Cards

S2D11 Rack 30 U of optical components 15 U of cable management Total of 45 U About 2 meters height of equipment. 864 Tx links from layer one have no target component in the current plan. It is essential to make the accessible now for future use. Option one to place unused links at the bottom. 2(MPO48=>48LC) 8(MPO12=>12LC) Fully populated 8(MPO12=>12LC) LC Empty

S2D11 Rack Option two, make them uniformly accessible in the centre of the device. 2(MPO48=>48LC) 8(MPO12=>12LC) Fully populated 8(MPO12=>12LC) LC 50%

S2D11 Rack ‘+’ If all potential connections from the L1 cards are to be mapped onto L2 This would require 24 L2 MP7 and 63 U of rack space. 2.8 meters.

Cartridge Concept 45U of components, 30 U of boxes and 15U of cable management will be cabled and tested. Option 1 Do it all in the cavern, Simple to install but guaranteed mistakes.

Cartridge Concept Option 2 Cable and test LC connections on the surface and take the full assembly underground. Easy to debug in a comfortable environment, Hard to lift and install. Each component needs to be serviceable.

12 X 12 matrix routes 12 channels from input side to common connectors on the output side.

Three 12 to 12 Units will provide 36 inputs each with 12 channels, giving a total of 432 Links.

MPO 48 to 3 x MPO12 Fan-out trunk cable is used to bring groups of three signals together on one single MPO48 connector. Each MPO 48 connector has 36 links all originating from the same position of each input connector. MPO 48 with 36 connections

INPUT: 2 x(12 x12) units housed in one 1U box provide 24 MPO-12 inputs (288) 3 of these boxes provides the required 864 input links. OUTPUT: A multiplexer cable takes an MP0-12 from each box (36 total) into 1 MPO-48 to the MP7. Two multiplexer cables are required per MP7 to provide the 72 input links. MPO 48 with 36 connections

Why? LC => LC system costs time, money and space. 35 U high 3 U Both have a lead time of 16 weeks from PO.
