Please Resign From The Back to Egypt Committee: Moving Congregations Through Seasons of Change William H. Lamar IV Presenter Goodwin Douglas Presiding Elder

Exodus 16 1 On the fifteenth day of the second month after they had left Egypt, the whole company of Israel moved on from Elim to the Wilderness of Sin which is between Elim and Sinai. 2 The whole company of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron there in the wilderness. 3 The Israelites said, "Why didn't God let us die in comfort in Egypt where we had lamb stew and all the bread we could eat? You've brought us out into this wilderness to starve us to death, the whole company of Israel!"

Exodus Story Your Congregational Story

What was God delivering Israel from? Where was God leading Israel? What is God delivering your congregation from? Where is God leading your congregation?

God’s Resume of Deliverance God calls Moses and promises deliverance Oppression is increased Promise of deliverance is renewed Plagues Passover Exodus Crossing the Red Sea Deliverance Celebration

Please Resign From the Back to Egypt Committee Remember what God has done. We tend to get amnesia when the journey gets difficult.

Please Resign From the Back to Egypt Committee Deliverance requires wandering in the wilderness. There is no other option.

Please Resign From the Back to Egypt Committee The whole congregation complained. No one is exempt from murmuring.

Please Resign From the Back to Egypt Committee Leaders are the target. But they are not the deliverers.

Please Resign From the Back to Egypt Committee When moving to deliverance congregations yearn for the familiar, even if the familiar is toxic.

Please Resign From the Back to Egypt Committee The people’s hunger is legitimate. Do not be angry because of the hunger. Exalt the One who sends bread from heaven.
