2. Christ in the Old Testament... Wilderness “Let my people go. Moses words to Pharaoh Exodus 4 – Exodus 9 Go into the wilderness so that they may worship me. Duet 8 v 2 Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.

Wilderness 3 major things were mentioned: a) to humble you b) to prove you c) to know what was in your heart So as we examine the scriptures, the specific purpose of the wilderness was a mere 'proving ground'. In the wilderness, one is supposed to die to the flesh (your ideas, your ways) and listen to the Word of GOD.

4. Christ in the Old Testament... Wilderness Luke 4 tells us that Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness, but not for 40yrs but for 40 days. Jesus what tested, by the Devil, in his proving ground and received His promise. Please do not die in the wilderness like a whole generation of Israel did, only Joshua and Caleb entered the promise land of God. When Jesus was in the wilderness, He passed every test.

5. Christ in the Old Testament... Manna Manna was the supernatural food God gave to the Israelites during their 40-year wandering in the desert. The word manna means "What is it?" in Hebrew. Like us the people of Israel, complained to God about what little they had to eat, and things were better back in Egypt. Exodus 16, it rained down bread from heaven. In one form or another, bread is a recurring symbol of life in the Bible because it was the staple food of ancient times. Manna could be ground into flour and baked into bread; it was also called the bread of heaven.

6. Christ in the Old Testament... Manna New testament - More than 1,000 years later, Jesus Christ repeated the miracle of manna in the Feeding of the 5000. The crowd following him, were in the "wilderness” he multiplied a few loaves of bread until everyone had eaten their fill. (Luke 9 v 10-17) Christ frequently referred to himself as bread: "the true Bread from heaven" (John 6:32), "the Bread of God" (John 6:33), "the Bread of life" (John 6:35, 48), and John 6:51: "I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world."

7. Christ in the Old Testament... Serpent In Numbers 21, the people again got discouraged, and in their unbelief they murmured against Moses for bringing them into the wilderness. As a judgment against the people for their sin, God sent poisonous serpents into the camp, and people began to die.This showed the people that they were the ones in sin, and they came to Moses to confess that sin and ask for God's mercy. When Moses prayed for the people, God instructed him to make a bronze serpent and put it on a pole so the people could be healed (Numbers 21 v 5 -7).

8. Christ in the Old Testament... Serpent The people did get healed when they looked at the serpent, and the image was kept for many years. Many years later, when the Israelites were in the Promised Land, the serpent became an object of worship (2 Kings 18:4). This shows how easy it is for us to take the things of God and twist them into idolatry. We must never worship the tools or the people God chooses to use, but always bring the honor and glory to God alone.

9. Christ in the Old Testament... Serpent John 3:14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up. Galatians 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.” Paul is reminding the Galatians that Jesus became a curse for us, although He was blameless and sinless—the spotless Lamb of God. “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

10. Christ in the Old Testament... The Rock Exodus 17 v 1-7 Yet again the people complained to Moses “give us water to drink” (v2). V6 Moses is told by God to go and to strike the rock at Horeb, and the people will have water. Numbers 20 v 1-13 The people again confront Moses because there is no water to drink (v5). V8 this time Moses is told to speak to the rock, but he strikes the rock twice and water comes. V12 Because Moses and Aaron, had not done as commanded God, he tells them they will not take the people into the Promised Land. Duet 34 v 5-7 Moses dies without entering the land.

11. Christ in the Old Testament... Rock Why was God angry with Moses and Aaron? because they had disobeyed God. 1 Corinthians 10 v 1–5 They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ. Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered in the wilderness. Jesus was struck and died once for us on the cross, and from that action we can receive the water/spirit of God. Just pray/speak and you will receive.
